As Clozetivity celebrates three years of franchising, we sat down with Joseph Katz and partner Ben Obstfeld, owners of Clozetivity of Ocean County, to discuss his journey as one of the brand’s first franchisees.
You were one of the first franchise owners in the Clozetivity system. How did it all begin?
In 2021, I was working in the pharmaceutical industry. It was right after the COVID lockdown, and I felt uncertain about my future in the field. I started exploring business ownership opportunities, but nothing felt quite right. When Clozetivity was introduced to me, I immediately saw something special—a clear vision and a strong plan. I decided to take the leap, and three years later, we’ve built a thriving business with four crews, four vans, and our own cutting machinery. We closed out 2024 with over $3 million in sales.
How has the business changed over the past three years?
I’ve watched the company grow tremendously, witnessing firsthand how its vision has evolved and how expansion has taken off nationwide. Clozetivity’s corporate office has played a huge role in this success, implementing game-changing tools like the CRM system, design software, marketing strategies, and leadership initiatives. The progress made in just three years is incredible, and the corporate team deserves all the credit.
What do you love most about your job?
Helping people bring their dream spaces to life is the best feeling in the world. We walk into homes that are cluttered and chaotic, completely transform them, and then witness the pure joy on our clients’ faces. Some smile, some even cry happy tears—it’s truly special to be part of that moment.
What advice would you give to new franchise owners?
My number one piece of advice is to follow the system! Don’t try to reinvent the wheel—you invested in a franchise for a reason, so trust the process. When I first started, I had ideas about changing certain things, but I was encouraged to stick to the proven methods. Looking back, I’m so glad I did. As a new franchise owner, you may not see the full picture at first, but if you stay committed to the process, success will follow.
If you could do it all over again, would you?
Absolutely, in a heartbeat! Clozetivity has changed my life for the better and given me the American Dream. I would highly recommend this opportunity to anyone with the passion and work ethic to run a business. The early stages can be challenging, but with dedication and 100% commitment, this business is a goldmine.
